Sukiyaki Night is here just in time for winter! Sukiyaki is a style of Japanese hotpot, perfect for filling and warming all of your stomachs!!
Sukiyaki is a dish cooked right at the table. It features thin slices of beef, lots of vegetables, and a savoury broth. Everyone puts in what they want and it cooks right in front of you. You pull out cooked vegetables and beef and eat it with steamed rice.
You cook your meal around the table, so bring all your friends! Meet new people! It's a fun, interactive, and very social meal you won't want to miss!

Our first sushi night of the year is here! Come out for an enjoyable, social evening with tons of food. On the menu are california rolls, spicy salmon rolls, salmon sushi, cucumber sushi, and MORE! Also being served are miso soup and ice cream for dessert!

[EVENT] Welcome Back Picnic (Sept 17th, 11:30am-2:30pm)
Welcome Back Picnic is here again!! Come out and visit your old friends at JRQ while munching on delicious onigiri (Japanese rice balls) and sipping on soul-warming miso soup! Join us for a riveting game of suikawari (Watermelon smashing game) and of course, in the eating of the watermelon afterwards. * Please note: You do NOT need all of the requirements listed above. All we ask is that you are motivated and enthusiastic about learning new skills!
** However, the Art Director/Webmaster MUST have some knowledge of coding and Photoshop.
Applications are due Saturday, April 2nd and interviews will be held Monday, April 4 through Wednesday, April 6.

2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund
JRQ presents: 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund
As I'm sure you are all aware, Japan was hit by a very large earthquake last Friday. Here at JRQ, we're trying to marshall together an effort to raise money and awareness for this cause.
Starting on Monday, March 14th, we'll be in the Queen's Center accepting donations. We also have large Queen's and Canadian flags to be signed with messages of hope and support.

[NEW EVENT] Nabemono Charity Event
Mar 5: Nabemono Charity Event
Location: QUIC (Queen's University International Center, in the JDUC)
Time: 5:30 - 8 pm
Price: $10 for members, $12 for non-members
Nabemono, or Japanese-style Hot Pot, is a dish served and shared among many people. It features thin slices of pork, nappa cabbage, mushrooms, tofu, and more in a savoury broth. As an appetizer, we are serving edamame, or soybeans. Dessert will be a traditional Japanese dish, shiratama with anko, a sticky rice cake served with red bean paste (but vanilla ice cream will also be available).
Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Thousand Crane Charity Event. During ticket sales, we will be continuing to fold cranes. Currently, we are at 600 cranes! Please fold one with us and make a wish inside :)

Only 40 seats are available, please buy your tickets early!!

Happy New Year everyone! In Japanese, あけましておめでとうございます (akemashite omedetou gozaimasu)!! For the first event of the new year, we're having a charity event!
There is a Japanese legend where the folding of a thousand paper cranes is said to grant wishes. It has been popularized by the children's book called Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, detailing the true story of a girl coping with leukemia. (To learn more about this, see Wikipedia.
This event is to fold a thousand origami paper cranes! We invite all of you to help us and to donate whatever you can. All proceeds will be given to Kingston General Hospital.
Come visit us at Mac Cory and at the ARC. You can write a wish on your paper and then fold it into a crane. If you don't know how, one of our members will gladly assist you :)
